Bevin Barsby is one of our Mt Lofty residents who was recently recognized and rewarded for his 50 years of service to the Lions Club.
The aim of the Australian Lions Foundation is to provide assistance for public relief, emergency aid and community welfare to Australians in need. The Lions Club has over 1.5 million members worldwide and all money raised by the foundation is used to help those who are less fortunate. While each club has its own community objectives, there are five global causes are focused on; Diabetes, Environment, Hunger, Vision and Childhood Cancer.
Bevin joined the Lions in Richmond, North-West Queensland in May 1972. He transferred to Murgon in August 1973 and joined the local Lions Club, where he remained in service until 15 years ago when he transferred to the Proston Lions Club.
Over the last 50 years Bevin has held executive positions several times in the Lions Clubs, and also served on the District Cabinet for many years which involved around 80 clubs, many of which Bevin and Jan travelled to over the years. They helped in many fundraising events to assist communities and Bevins positions over the years included the important roles of District Governor and District Secretary.
Lions has been a big part of he and his wife Jan’s life for over 50 years and Jan speaks fondly of their experiences. Bevin was recently duly recognised with the Australian Lions Foundation 50 years of service medal which he displays proudly in his home with us at Mt Lofty.
