? MEET CAROLINE FOYLE ?
Caroline has led a life filled with fearless moves in all corners of the globe. She is now unable to record this potted history of her life, and her husband Jim has done it for her in gratitude for their sixty years together.
Now 82 years old, Caroline completed her secretarial schooling in Bristol, England. At 19, she enlisted in the Women’s Royal Air Force and underwent training in telegraphy. Her first posting was to a NATO establishment in London working in communications. A a year later she was posted to Episkopi, Cyprus, to work in the classified signals section.
It was here on Valentine’s Day 1962 that Caroline met Jim, a member of the RAF. The romance blossomed and they returned to England to marry in Caroline’s hometown of Bristol.
A couple of years later Jim was posted to Belgium and Caroline had the unenviable task of setting up their home in the French speaking city of Liège with only an 18-month-old daughter to help! After 3 years they returned to England, and their next move was to the Italian speaking island of Sardinia. Caroline established their new home in Poetto, and settled into life on the Mediterranean!
The family returned to England again in 1973. Jim spent much of this time outside the UK and Caroline worked as a headmaster’s secretary. In 1976 they took up a post in the Netherlands.
In early 1983 the family decided Australia looked an attractive place to live and complete with the family dog, they moved to Tasmania.
Caroline worked in several roles before retiring in 1995 as the PA to both the State’s Forestry Commissioner and Head of Silviculture. Their children had left the nest years before and wanderlust arose again in the couple. They wanted to know more about their adopted country, so purchased a caravan and travelled the highways and byways of Australia for almost six years and eventually settled in Queensland.
Caroline now resides in our Cornubia facility where Jim visits her regularly.
