“Joy and I were born in South East Queensland and settled in Brisbane during childhood. We each completed our education in Brisbane.
I became a committed Christian in my early teens, and Joy during her mid-teens. We met as members at an inter-denominational youth group.
I graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Queensland, finding my niche in Power Generation, while Joy attended a Business College and found employment at the University.
We married in 1953 and were blessed with nine wonderful children, six girls and three boys – who all became well established in life – except our one little boy who died while still a baby.
In 1958 we moved to Grafton in NSW so I could take up a position with Northern Rivers Electricity, where I stayed until retirement. We felt privileged to raise a family in a rural environment, which has been greatly appreciated by all our children.
When we found ourselves alone once the children had left we moved amongst rural environments, until we settled in Brisbane in late 2017. Finally we moved into Infinite Care Cornubia in October 2019 to enjoy the 24/7 care.
In early January, management and the wellbeing staff encouraged Joy and I to use the chapel for our morning devotions, which we did gladly with a ‘Welcome’ sign on the open door.
Many residents have asked staff to assist them physically to attend, and it is a joy to share their enthusiasm.”
