Fidel recently made (Infinite) history by becoming the first student to graduate through our partnership with Ozmac at our Cornubia facility! His journey has been an inspiring example of growth and dedication.
When Chris, Trainer & Assessor from Ozmac, first met Fidel in September 2023, he left a memorable impression – although not entirely for the right reasons! “My first memory of Fidel is that he was always late – whether it was appointments, meetings, or classes, he arrived fashionably late every time,” Chris shares. Recognising Fidel’s potential as a gifted and confident communicator, it was clear that his punctuality needed immediate attention, “Fidel had a skill set that would be a real asset in an aged care setting, but he needed to match his talents with responsibility.”
Despite this initial hurdle, Fidel’s ever-present, radiant smile and his infectious sense of humour quickly became notable qualities – that all the residents loved! These traits, Chris notes, “are invaluable in aged care, where bringing joy and happiness to residents is as important as clinical care.”
As Fidel’s training progressed, his enthusiasm for learning became evident. He consistently asked questions and soon became a standout in his cohort. However, early in his traineeship, Fidel faced challenges in meeting the expected clinical standards. It was a critical moment in his journey, one that required some tough love from his support team, including his mother. “This was Fidel’s turning point,” Chris explains, “and he began to take responsibility for his work, and in the second half of his traineeship, his maturity and commitment soared.”
Fidel was the first to complete his traineeship among the Infinite Care cohort. When asked if he would do it all over again, he responded with an enthusiastic “absolutely,” acknowledging how much the experience had transformed his life. His willingness to seek help when needed – a crucial quality in healthcare, played a significant role in his success.
Fidel’s impact on residents was profound, as they often expressed their appreciation for the energy and positivity he brought to the workplace. He now stands as a confident, competent practitioner with a bright future in the healthcare industry. And perhaps most notably, he’s never late for anything anymore!
